Huge upgrade for major road
Plans to widen part of Deception Bay Road, from two lanes to four, have been unveiled - and are open for public comment.
Upgrading the final 3.3kms, from the Park/Lipscombe Rds intersection to the Bruce Highway, will make the entire 9km road dual carriageway.
Pressure is growing on the major arterial route which is heavily used and often congested at peak morning and evening times.

The "preferred layout" includes:
- Median strips separating east and west-bound traffic
- New service roads at the western (highway) end to improve safety for those joining Deception Bay Rd
- New signalised traffic intersections at Priests Rd, Krause St and Waroo Dr, with signalised pedestrian crossings
- A “mid-block” signalised pedestrian crossing near Bay Residential Village
- Improved signals intersection at Zammit St U-turns permitted at Zammit St and Priests Rd.
- Upgraded signalised traffic intersection and pedestrian crossings at Park/Lipscombe Rds
- Improved drainage and flood prevention
- Eight bus stops
- A fauna overpass and fauna fencing on Deception Bay Rd
- 6.5kms of new pathway to encourage walking and bike riders. 2.6kms of pathway will also be upgraded.
Top priority
TMR says the preferred layout is in response to community feedback on safety, the environment and better active transport.
More than 250 submissions were received during the 2021 consultation period when wildlife and preserving green space emerged as “high priority”.
Feedback came from residents, community groups, businesses, service providers (including police and Translink) and Moreton Bay Regional Council.
TMR said the upgrades will “ease congestion and cater for future traffic growth” as well as providing “a seamless transition from the Bruce Highway upgrade”.

The State Government has given $1.5 million towards planning for the Deception Bay Road upgrades.
