Bromwich is primed to face old team

Kenny Bromwich may not have been counting down the days to the Dolphins’ first clash with his old club, the Melbourne Storm, but he’s looking forward to the encounter.

“We had a lot of big firsts at this club, there was a lot of build-up to the season … I had other things to worry about than these fellas but I’m excited for this weekend,” he says.

Bromwich hasn’t had any messages this week from former teammates revving him up ahead of the game on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium (7.35pm kick-off), but he’s expecting a fired-up Storm.

“I’m expecting them to come out and play the way they always play … to their structures, to their strengths and to just compete. They have been doing that ever since I can remember. That’s something we have to prepare for and try to play well against,” Bromwich says.

Is he looking forward to going up against Melbourne Prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona?

“I’ve had to tackle him quite a few times at training. It’s going to be a tough challenge, but I have to be up for that,” Bromwich says.

“We’ve spoken about how tough a job it’s going to be contain him and a few of the other players.”

The Dolphins are coming off a bye and well-earned break after a hectic start to their inaugural season. So, will the bye work for or against them on the weekend?

“We’ll find out on the weekend. Everyone enjoyed their time off, we had a crew of boys goes up to Darwin and spend some time with a lot of kids up there,” Bromwich says.

“I went to SeaWorld (to see the Dolphins) with my family and just really put the feet up and relaxed for a bit. To come back in, we’ve done a session at Enoggera at the barracks which was pretty solid and come out over here (to the training field) and are training really hard.

“I’m recharged, I think. I think it has been pretty intense, the competition is wide open … anyone can win on their day. That’s what’s been happening.”

With Ray Stone returning from injury and captain Jesse Bromwich and Mark Nicholls likely to play, the Dolphins will be looking to do just that again … against a more fancied opponent.
