Building links with community

Developer Ausbuild took out the Award for Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence at the 2022 Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Awards on October 21 for its work in supporting community organisations, schools and sport in the region.

Ausbuild Senior Development Manager Keith Cairns, who has been a local for 30 years, said engaging with the community in a meaningful way to find solutions and create opportunities was rewarding.

“Our company has been in business for 34 years. We’ve created lots of developments around the place and one of the things we’ve learnt certainly in the last couple of years is you’ve really got to get out there in the community, talking to people,” Keith told the audience during the gala event.

“If you work together you can achieve fantastic goals. There’s a lot of people here tonight that I’ve actually worked with.”

Established in 1988, Ausbuild is Queensland’s largest privately-owned developer and home builder.

Building more than houses

During the past 34 years, it has delivered more than 85 master planned communities and 8900 homes across South East Queensland.

Keith said while those were impressive goals and the company was proud of its developments at Warner and Morayfield, working with the community was equally rewarding.

“The community award tonight … it just shows that if you get out there and actually talk to the community, you can actually get some pretty good goals and that’s how we’ve been successful here in the region and elsewhere in South East Queensland,” he explained.

Keith said the Moreton Bay Region was the place to be.

“It’s a growth area, we all know it’s a growth area. Lots of people want to live here for a zillion and one reasons because it’s a nice place,” he said.

“We decided to make a conscious choice to create more communities here in Moreton Bay. We have one up at Morayfield, another one at Warner and we’re continuing to buy … we’ll have another development out at Caboolture West. We’ll be here for years.”

So, what sets Ausbuild apart from its competitors?

“I think getting in boots and all, talking to the community and trying to resolve issues they have. Development is not an easy thing to do but you need to get the community onboard, otherwise it’s just a battle the whole way,” he said.

“The more you get involved in it, the more fun it is. You really enjoy what you do, satisfy what people want and I like to actually build things for people.”
