Candlelight vigil to remember victims of violence

Three candlelight vigils will be held throughout the region tonight in honour of those who have died from domestic or family violence.

The vigils will be held at the Encircle Neighbourhood Centres at Kallangur, Lawnton and Redcliffe from 5-6.30pm.

This will be a safe place for the community to gather and remember those who have died because of domestic and family violence, including four lives lost in the Moreton Bay community since last year's ceremony.

Encircle Community Services have hosted a public candle lighting ceremony for the past 13 years.

The vigils are held as part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, which is held every year in May to raise community awareness and to send a clear message that violence in families and homes will not be tolerated.

This is a free event and light refreshments, candles and a program will be provided to all who attend. Bookings are essential for catering purposes.
