Catch-up recycling collections on September 9

Waste contractor Cleanaway will be out in force in the Moreton Bay Region tomorrow collecting recycling bins that have not already been emptied after weeks of delays to waste and recycling collections.

Mayor Peter Flannery says he’s cautiously optimistic that Cleanaway’s promise of a return to normal services from September 12 will come to fruition, and that Council has written to Cleanaway demanding an explanation for ongoing bin delays.

“The situation has gone on too long and locals are frustrated by these delays, understandably, in fact I share these frustrations,” Mayor Flannery says.

Report a missed collection

“We have written to Cleanaway and the situation, because it will become untenable if this continues.

“This is a service locals pay for through their rates, so we expect the contract services to be delivered.”

Mayor Flannery says if bins have not been emptied by 6pm on Saturday, September 9, residents should report a “missed collection” via Council’s online portal.

“Hopefully their staffing situation will be fixed shortly.”

He says it’s important to remember that if bins are blocked by an on-street vehicle or other obstructions they will not be collected.
