Contract paves way for PCYC build
Work will begin on the new Caboolture Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC), with FKG Group coming on board for the construction and delivery of the building.
The new $17.5 million facility is scheduled to open in mid-2025 and will be located next to the new police station on King St.
The new club will be equipped with a dedicated youth space, multi-purpose sport, recreation and community areas, a gymnastics facility, 24/7 gym, outdoor basketball court, and car park.
It will also have solar panels and batteries installed to deliver a five-star green rating, and be fully insulated for heating, cooling and sound.
It will replace the existing club on Toovey St, which was built in the early 1980s.
Now that the FKG Group has been awarded the head contract, work on the building can commence.
PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz says the new club will allow them to continue delivering important programs that benefit the community.
“This new club will allow us to continue to deliver the vital youth programs that are at the heart of what PCYC Queensland is all about, including our driver mentoring program Braking the Cycle, After Dark and Drop In programs, and a Youth Leadership Team,” Phil says.
“It will also have brand-new high-quality facilities for sports, gymnastics, martial arts – everything you would expect from a PCYC.
“This club will be the real heart of the community - accessible to all, welcoming everyone in and addressing a range of community needs.”
With the club boasting around 1000 members, FKG Group Managing Director Nick Gardner says he is excited to create a fun space for everyone to enjoy.
“This project is about more than just construction, it’s about creating a space where local youth and families can come together, learn, and grow,” Nick says.
“We’re focused on delivering a high-quality facility that will support everything from sport and recreation to vital youth programs.”
Support from all levels
The new PCYC has been made possible with several funding agreements including $10 million from the Federal Government, $5 million from the State Government, and $2.5 million from the City of Moreton Bay.
Federal Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Senator for Queensland, Anthony Chisholm, says the new facility will significantly improve recreational services for families in Caboolture and the surrounding areas.
“PCYC Caboolture has more than 1,000 members and local families that participate in its activities such as gymnastics, boxing, martial arts and other youth development programs,” he says.
“We’re proud to back facilities like this one as they play a major role in the management of community programs and the services PCYC provide to help improve the lives of young people and strengthen the Caboolture community.”
Having seen “first-hand the real difference” a PCYC makes to a local community, Police Minister and Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan says he can't wait for the Caboolture community to start enjoying the new facilities.
“It’s great that our local community will have a brand new PCYC facility, but it’s even better that the new facility will help support the delivery of PCYC’s grass-roots, community focused programs,” Minister Ryan says.
“Every community that has a PCYC facility and programs like ‘After Dark’ and ‘Drop In’ are better communities as a result.”
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery says the new PCYC will provide the local youth with a home away from home.
“I’m proud to support the development of the new Caboolture PCYC through a $2.5 million Regional Community Grant,” Mayor Flannery says.
“This is an exciting project and the result of a long-lasting partnership with Queensland PCYC who play a vital role in building strong community connections for our youth.”
