Council issues weather alert, one street closed

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued an Initial Flood Watch for South East Queensland for minor to moderate flooding possible from Saturday within the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.

Council has sent an SMS and email to people registered with the free MoretonAlert app, which delivers timely advice about severe weather.

So far, only Mott St at Strathpine is closed.

The Bureau says showers and thunderstorms are likely to increase over the weekend, with a risk of heavy rainfall in severe thunderstorms.

There is the chance of heavy to intense rainfall over southeast Queensland from Saturday night into Monday if the low moves close to the southeast Queensland coast.

The Bureau warns catchments across the Flood Watch area have experienced periods of rain over the past few weeks and are relatively wet and are likely to respond quickly to rainfall.
