'Diamond' interchange shining bright
The $30 million Gympie Arterial Rd and Strathpine Rd Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) is now complete and operational.
This
DDI design is the first of its kind in Brisbane and the third in Queensland following
two recently opened on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.
Including
new on-road bike lanes, the interchange upgrade at Bald Hills was designed to
reduce congestion, improve travel times and improve safety.
Funded
by the Australian and Queensland governments on a 50:50 basis the project was
delivered by Fulton Hogan supporting an average of 65 direct jobs.
Finishing work
“We’ve
seen how effective diamond diverging interchanges can be at alleviating
congestion, so it’s a triumph to local commuters that this project is now
complete,” Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.
Minor
finishing work and noise barrier installation up to Wing St is still taking
place with work expected to be completed by mid 2023.
