Excitement ramps up as skate park re-opens

Albany Creek Skate Park has officially reopened after a $1.7 million refurbishment that includes an open spine bowl and street-style obstacles.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery says the upgrade is part of a series at skate parks across the region to improve facilities for skaters, scooters, BMX riders and rollerbladers,

“The significant skate park upgrade offers a safe, modern, and enjoyable environment for skaters of all ages and skill levels,” Mayor Flannery says.

“Ahead of the Olympics and Paralympics, we’ve been rolling out the gold medal treatment to our local skate parks in Deception Bay, Albany Creek and soon in Morayfield.

“The new Albany Creek Skate Park features a modern open spine bowl and exciting new street-style obstacles including ledges, rails, and banks for all skill levels.

“We've also introduced new terraced seats with a shade shelter, and USB outlets are available for phone charging.”

Rumble Pro Tour Skateboarding and Skate Australia Development Squad member Jack Lewis says he’s excited about the new features at Albany Creek.

“I’d love to get to the 2028 Olympics in LA and of course Brisbane in 2032,” Jack says.

Training close to home

“We have competition training at least 10 to 15 hours a week, so it's awesome to have a new place close to home for that.

“Deception Bay skate park has become a great training spot since the works there, and I think I’m going to really use this one too.

“I'm definitely keen for the new skate park opening in Morayfield as well.

“The new charging points and lights here are great—it means I can skate at night without worrying about my phone running out of battery.”

Councillor Matt Constance (Div 10) says the state-of-the-art skate park was shaped by extensive community consultation.

“Special thanks to Councillor Tonks (Div 9) for helping advocate for this upgrade in our local area, and to the award-winning team of experts who brought this safe, social and innovative park to life,” Cr Constance says.

“As a contemporary and family friendly space, the park will once again become a vibrant hub.

“Who knows, we might even see the next generation of Olympians honing their skills right here in Moreton Bay.”
