Good Samaritan rewarded for his honesty

A nine-year-old boy from Moreton Bay has been rewarded for his honesty after handing in a lost wallet to the police.

The Good Samaritan, known only as Parker, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from Queensland Police during his school assembly on June 6, which was attended by his proud mum.

Acting Inspector Shane Draper presented Parker with the award on behalf of Acting Chief Superintendent Adam Guild, to say thank you for being an honest, kind and thoughtful citizen.

Parker had found the wallet on the ground outside his home in Woodford a month earlier on April 17, which contained a sum of money and credit cards.

Knowing the right thing to do, Parker stopped by the Woodford Police Station on his way to school the following morning where he handed over the wallet to Carla, who was working on the front counter.

“He was very polite and also very excited to be given an official QPS receipt for handing in the property. It is great to see a young person making good choices, with good morals”, Carla said.

Using the address on the driver’s licence, police were able to return the wallet to its rightful owner, who was from Chermside West.

The owner then sent a letter to the Woodford Police station to pass onto Parker, to say thanks for being so honest.
