High tea raises money for The Forgotten Women
A high tea celebrating International Women’s Day has raised more than $3000 for the fastest-growing homeless population – women aged over 55 years.
Organised by The Forgotten Women project, which aims to provide fit-for-purpose housing and individually tailored support for homeless women aged over 55 years, the high tea was held at Hercules Road State School.
Among the attendees were Health Minister and Redcliffe State MP Yvette D’Ath, Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery, Councillor Cath Tonks (Div 9) and Moreton Bay Superintendent John Hallam.
The event was supported by Queensland Police Service,
Panda Pearls and Redcliffe Friendly Grocer.
Guest speakers include Helen Williams, who spoke about how to be retirement-ready, Mangrove Housing CEO Teresa Reed and Housing Older Women Movement founding member Linda Hahn.
Raffles on the day raised about $3500 for The Forgotten Women Project.
