Inclusive fun was the name of the Aussie Rules game at Endeavour Foundation’s Learning and Lifestyle Hub in Lawnton recently.

Lawnton Learning and Lifestyle Site Manager Sarita Alay-ay says it was an opportunity for clients to take part in an AFL Queensland Sports Showcase.

“The AFLQ showcase at our Learning and Lifestyle Centre was a remarkable event, highlighting the joy and enthusiasm of our clients as they actively participated in activities designed for all abilities,” Sarita says.

The event was the result of a new partnership between Endeavour and Queensland Aussie Rules, in a bid to ensure everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to experience the joy of footy.

Breaking down barriers

AFLQ Participation and Programs Manager of Schools, Inclusion and Diversity Jeff Neumann praised the Endeavour Foundation for working hard to break down barriers to taking part in sport.

“We have similar values and goals when it comes to making sport as accessible and inclusive as possible and we wanted to assist in providing more opportunity for everyone,” Jeff says.

The clients took part in footy activities to develop skills and understand the basic elements of the game, before moving into match play to practice what they had learnt.

“Seeing everyone engage and revel in the excitement of the game was truly heartwarming and a testament to the inclusive environment we strive to cultivate,” Sarita says.

Lawnton Learning and Lifestyle clients say they thoroughly enjoyed the session.

“I enjoyed everything, especially kicking the footy. It was nice day for it too. We should do it again,” John-Michael says.

As part of the new partnership, Endeavour Foundation will host Hydration Stations at the AFLQ Inclusive Cup games at Cararra, Noosa and Moorooka.

Endeavour-supported clients will play in teams across the six-week competition, which culminates in a grand final at Moorooka on August 31.

“Participating in such community events not only brings immense joy to our clients but also reinforces our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and engagement,” Sarita says.

“It underscores our dedication to providing enriching experiences that celebrate diversity and promote a culture of inclusivity within our community.”
