Indi folk singer to melt hearts at MBFW

Indi folk singer Kelsey Berrington makes no apologies for tugging at people’s heartstrings every time he gets behind a microphone.

With his heartbreaking lyrics and warm folk melodies, the singer-songwriter from Kobble Creek in Moreton Bay’s hinterland will deliver another moving set when he performs at this year’s Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival.

He is one of more than 40 artists who will take to the stage at this year’s event, which returns to Woody Point’s Apex Park from August 23-25.

With two albums and a host of singles under his belt, Kelsey says the crowd can expect his usual “storytelling with songs new and old that’ll tug on their heartstrings”.

He released his debut album titled Matchsticks in 2018 which was then followed by Secrets and Doubts in 2022.

His latest single, House on the Hill, was released in February 2024 and has been streamed more than 19,000 times.

Other singles he has written and composed include Build a Home, Your Love, Live and Let Die, Strangers Town, Last Leaf and Let Him Go, to name a few.

As an artist who has worked in the music industry full time for eight years, Kelsey says nothing beats playing in front of a hometown crowd.

“I love performing locally because I get to see regular people I know and family,” Kelsey says.

“I’ve performed several times at the Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival, and I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere - it’s such a well organised and put on event.

“It’s a perfect day out, and I always spend a few hours after my show hanging around and taking it all in.

“I’m definitely a foodie, and you’ll most likely find me with a pizza in hand.”

Kelsey will be performing on Friday, August 23 at The Oasis Stage from 10.45am-12pm and again at The Brew on Bramble from 1.30pm-3.15pm.
