Double coaching switch at Jets
Moreton Bay United has appointed new head coaches for its senior men’s and women’s teams.
Cameron Millar, above left, has stepped up to the men’s position after Royce Brownlie did not seek a fourth season in the role.
Head of Female Football Greg Bradley, right, is the new women’s coach, taking over from Head of Junior Development Mac Smith and Technical Director Matt Poole.
Jets' new coaches have started work immediately, planning pre-season and playing rosters for the 2023 season.
Chairman Ben Parkin said they were “great appointments” and “really exciting for the club and the league (NPL) in general”.
“Cameron (28) becomes one of the youngest first-team coaches in the league’s history and that in itself is a great achievement,” the chairman said.
“His appointment aligns to the club’s youth development policy where he has worked across all areas from our Academy Support Programs, SAP, NPL Academy and with the successful Under 23s for the last two years prior to taking on the first team.
“Greg is passionate about Moreton Bay United and women’s football.
“He has been a major influence on our girls’ program for years and has a chance to work with many players he’s already helped, as they transition to senior football.”
Jets’ Under 23s, coached by Bradley, are in the NPL semi-finals on Sunday travelling to premiers Gold Coast United, who they beat 2-1 in the penultimate fixture of the regular season.
Next year Jets will be in FQPL 1 Women’s after a 2022 NPLW campaign hit by long-term injuries.
“We’re looking to retain players from this season and sign players who want to help drive the club forward and enjoy their football,” Bradley said.
"We want to keep bringing our great juniors through with experienced players to help them. While relegation is not what we wanted, it gives us a chance to hit the reset button.”
Millar has appointed Dave Harris and Mac Smith as his assistant coaches. Harris returns to the position he had from 2015-18 and Smith will combine it with junior development.
“I am looking forward to working with great people, the exciting group of players and to develop a progressive team and environment our club can be proud of,” Millar said.
“Dave and Macca are outstanding people. They both bring expertise and experience that will be invaluable for our environment and are passionate about building the success of Moreton Bay United.”
Millar had two years playing for Jets and four with Albany Creek Excelsior. He has coached at Academy and SAP levels before taking the Under 23s to successive play-offs and winning the grand final last year.
Bradley has won five premierships, coached teams to five grand finals and was named Football Brisbane Male Coach of the Year last year.
