Knives found in police crack down

Moreton Police uncovered two knives and a “drug utensil” in a wandering operation at Mango Hill Railway Station and bus station last week.

Police detected the knives, between 4-8pm last Thursday, using a hand-held scanning device. The knives were being unlawfully carried.

During the operation, it is alleged police found a 14-year-old Elimbah boy in possession of a knife. He will be dealt with under the Juvenile Justice Act.

Similar operations will be conducted in the coming months at train stations, transport hubs and safe night precincts.

Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew McAlister, Moreton Tactician, urges parents to speak with their children about the consequences they may face by carrying a knife.

“Over 80 people were wanded, including more than 50 youths, resulting in the location of two knives and one drug utensil,” said Action Senior Sergeant McAlister.

The wanding legislation, known as Jack’s Law, was introduced following the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Jack Beasley in 2019, and aims to combat knife crime across Queensland.
