Local musos to rock Moreton Bay

June is Make Music Month across Moreton Bay, and one local band is well and truly excited to be involved.

Caboolture-based rock alt trio Reece Depasquale (lead vocals and guitar), Rosie Bowman (bass guitar) and Toby Vinton (drums) make up The Phosphenes, and they’re ready to bring the music community together.

The trio will be hosting an all-ages open mic night on June 27 and encourages all artists to come down for an evening full of connection and performance.

The Phosphenes’ lead vocalist and guitarist Reece Depasquale says Make Music Month is the perfect opportunity for artists to come together.

“As a young band, with all our members being under 18 when we first started to play live, it was really hard to find places where we could perform,” he says.

“We wanted to create an event that gave young people the opportunity to get up on stage and perform in front of an audience and we were stoked when the organisers of Make Music Month asked us to host this all-ages open mic.

“It is open to all young, emerging musicians in the City of Moreton Bay region whether they are solo artists, duos, trios or bands performing any genre of music.

“This is going to be an opportunity for the community to see just how musically talented the young people are in this region.”

From performing at school fairs and school-based band competitions to headlining shows and playing at well-loved Picnic Hill – The Phosphenes continue to grow.

The rock trio have recently released a new song titled Plastic Dreams, which is a sneak peek into the sound of their upcoming EP Cletus.

Recorded at the iconic Airlock Studios at Samford, Reece says the recording process was everything they hoped for.

“Airlock is a beautiful studio with a big band room and solo box studios for recording. We live tracked all the songs and double tracked guitars to make our sound bigger.

“We got all six songs done in 12 hours…using two or three takes per song. I think we are all extremely proud of the work we put into those takes and are really happy with the final product.”
