Man charged over knife threats

Police have charged an 18-year-old man after he threatened another man with a knife and stole his vehicle at Morayfield on December 28.

They allege that just before 8am, the 18-year-old approached a 61-year-old man near Morayfield Rd and threatened him with the knife.

The older man was not physically harmed.

The 18-year-old obtained the keys to the older man’s vehicle, a Ford Ranger, and allegedly drove dangerously around a nearby car park.

A short time later, the Ranger crashed into an electric post, with the younger man fleeing the scene before being taken into custody by officers a short time later.

Court date set

The 18-year-old Kuraby man was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, deprivation of liberty, driving of motor vehicle unlicenced, armed robbery, unlawful stalking and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and was due to appear before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on December 29.

His next appearance is due at Caboolture Magistrates Court on February 5.

Investigators continue to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have dashcam footage to contact police here.
