Max 'flys' to double gold

Max Cunningham has led the medal charge for Rothwell-based Grace Swimming at this week’s Queensland Championships in Brisbane Aquatic Centre.

He won gold and the 13 Years Boys’ state title in the 50m and 100m butterfly events – with the 200m final tonight after finishing second in this morning's heat.

Cunningham also collected silver in his age group’s 50m backstroke and bronze from the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Olivia Smith also struck gold as part of the Brisbane Regional 14 Years Girls’ relay team and made the 50m freestyle final, finishing eighth.

Cunningham and Macey Lawler were both on the reserve team.

Lily Smith was just outside the medals, finishing fourth in the 17 Years Girls’ 50m backstroke and Sam Baker was eighth in the 14 Years Boys’ 800m freestyle.

Macey Lawler was 10th in the state in the 13 Year Girls’ 50m backstroke and Alia Shaw 11th in Queensland in the 14 Year Girls’ 1500m.

Grace Swimming, pictured top, had a total of 32 swimmers in action – 11 in individual events and 21 in relays squads.
