From advising politicians to discussing social impact initiatives with young people across the globe, St Eugene College Burpengary student Molly O’Hanlon is on a mission to make a lasting impact.

The Year 12 College Captain was appointed to the Youth Voice to Parliament this year, representing the Kurwongbah region of Moreton Bay, and a student delegate for the world HundrED Academy program.

The roles give her the opportunity to advise politicians about policies that impact young people and meet students from 124 different countries to collaborate and discuss social impact projects which address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Shining example

Speaking during Catholic Education week (July 21-27) St Eugene College Head of College Mitch Ulacco says Molly’s work with the Youth Voice to Parliament and the HundrED Academy program highlight the significant role young people can play in shaping our future.

“Molly is a shining example of the profound impact of a Catholic education,” he says.

“Her dedication to service and leadership locally and globally exemplifies the values we strive to instil in all our students.

“We are incredibly proud of her achievements and commitment to making a positive difference in our world.”

Adding to Molly’s accomplishments in 2024, she also co-ordinated the College’s International Women’s Day Breakfast.

Inspired by her Catholic education, Molly says she aims to translate her social justice experience into a teaching career, with ambitions to study at the Australian Catholic University in 2025.

“I want to inspire and guide the next generation,” she says.

“One day I would also like to establish my own kindergarten or school.

“I can’t wait to create supportive and innovative learning spaces for my future students.”
