Moreton Bay to host inaugural Women in BIO network event

More than 100 women from the biomedical and biotechnology sectors are expected to attend the inaugural Women in BIO – Industry and Networking Forum at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s (UniSC) Moreton Bay campus this month, sharing insights into the industry’s opportunities, challenges and career pathways.

Hosted by the Department of State Development, in collaboration with UniSC, this free industry and networking forum will be held on Tuesday, February 21 from 10am-1.30pm at 1 Moreton Parade, Petrie.

This event has been developed in response to suggestions and requests for targeted professional development and support for women in bio-industries.

Moreton Bay was chosen as the location of this event due to the university offering biomedical studies and contributing to the state’s science community.

Deputy Director-General of State Development, Michele Bauer (pictured above), says the forum will be a great opportunity for women interested in pursuing these fields to get more information about what the future holds in the profession.

“We’re growing this sector to attract new investment to Queensland and create more specialised jobs that could shape the future of healthcare,” Michele says.

“It’s important to stage this type of event to allow emerging and aspiring female leaders to gain insights into industry opportunities and challenges, hear from inspiring women in this field and make valuable contacts across the bio-industries.

“To build a highly-skilled workforce we must attract and keep top biomedical talent here – and that includes our best and brightest female researchers and innovators.

“Queensland has become the ideal place to learn, teach or work with high-value businesses and world-class researchers and clinicians across a range of sectors.

“Being on the map as a bio-industries hotspot also means you don’t have to go overseas to get experience. You can build your career right here in Queensland.”
