Moreton mums shine at AusMumpreneur Awards

Six women from the Moreton Bay Region have been named as winners in this year’s AusMumpreneur Awards.

The AusMumpreneur Awards, presented by The Women’s Business School, recognise women who successfully balance motherhood and business to suit their life and family.

Mango Hill’s Barbara Armstrong won gold in ‘The Women’s Business School’ category for her work building social enterprise Sweet Peanuts.

She launched Sweet Peanuts after the miscarriage of her first child – affectionately known to Barbara and husband Rob as Peanut - in 2019 and struggling to find support.

“Even though miscarriages are not physically with us, they still make us mothers,” Barbara explains.

Important advocacy

The social enterprise provides advocacy for bereaved women and couples, as well as care packages for mothers who miscarry to ensure they know someone is thinking of them and support is available.
Each package contains care items such as heat pillows, tea, and bath infusions to nurture and relax parents, as well as a crocheted soft peanut made by Jamz Crochet with either a blue bow tie, pink hair bow or a love heart for parents who did not know the gender of their child.

“Social enterprises are changing society, and educating families and friends of women who have miscarried about how to support them is creating change,” Barbara explains.

She says she dedicated her award to all the women and couples who experience miscarriage and it gives her a sense of validation that the care, comfort and compassion offered by Sweet Peanuts are needed.

“Winning the award shows my commitment to not only me personal and professional development, but that I have grown Sweet Peanuts from the start.”

Barbara hopes her win will inspire other young women to pursue entrepreneurship to create social impact.
