Music and food galore as Picnic Hill returns
Moreton Bay residents are being urged to grab their picnic blankets and head on down to the peninsula this month for the much-awaited return of Picnic Hill.
Hosted by Redcliffe Youth Services, Picnic Hill is a family-friendly event featuring live music, art, markets, games, food trucks and more.
Following a three-year hiatus due to COVID, the event will return on Friday, April 14 from 4-10pm.
Redcliffe Youth Services Executive Manager Amy Mayes said she is excited to see the event run again.
“I am really excited to see Picnic Hill running again,” Amy said.
“It’s a good opportunity for the community to grab their picnic blankets and chairs and spend an afternoon listening to some good music and eating good food.
“There’s so much to see and do – it’s a real family-friendly atmosphere.
“What more could you want on a Friday?”
To run the event, Redcliffe Youth Services have hired a number of young people as a way to help them build up their skills and connections.
“We employee 14 young people every six months on a business traineeship and their goal is to put on Picnic Hill for the community, so it’s an event put on by our young people,” Amy said.
“The reason why we chose business traineeships is because there are lots of different arms to business, so you can peak anyone’s interest.
“Our 14 young people will split up into teams and they will get to try different areas, or they may want to focus on one thing.
“If they are more hands on and they want to make things they might make the furniture for Picnic Hill, so the tables, the chairs and the bar are all made by the young people.
“Or they might be interested in administration, so they will do all the forms for the vendors. Or if they are interested in marketing they might be involved in graphic design.
“For these young people, Picnic Hill is all about helping them with connections and finding pathways for them.
“We have worked with more than 250 businesses for Picnic Hill, so the connection for our young people with these businesses is really important.”
The event is sponsored by Sebel Brisbane Margate Beach, Crew Legal, Crown Realty and The Belvedere Hotel.
Join in the fun
The event will be held on Friday, April 14 from 4-10pm at Picnic Hill, located on the corner of Oxley and Anzac Avenues in Redcliffe.
Redcliffe Youth Service hope to run another Picnic Hill event sometime in the second half of the year.
“Previously Picnic Hill was run once a month, but since we have only just started it up again up, we will plan on running it twice this year to gauge interest and see how they go,” Amy said.
“We hope to run one in September in the school holidays, but we will keep you updated with those plans.”

Helping the community
The Redcliffe Youth Space is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a range of support and community services across the Moreton Bay Region to people aged between 10-25 and their families; predominantly those who have been significantly impacted by trauma, oppression and poverty.
