"Phased close" of office building

Plans are being “investigated” for the future of offices beside the busiest road in Strathpine.

Moreton Bay City Council has started a “phased closure” of tenancies facing the chambers at 199 Gympie Rd.

Council said tenants fronting on to Gympie Rd - which include Peter Dutton, the Federal Member for Dickson – are being helped to relocate.

This does not include Strathpine Community Centre or the tenancies directly connected to the community centre.

A City of Moreton Bay spokesperson said the move is “due to the age of the building (facing Gympie Rd) and increasing cost to maintain or refurbish parts of the site”.

“Council has made the sustainable decision to not renew current leases or grant any new leases to the tenancies that front Gympie Road at Council’s 199 Gympie Road site.

“This decision does not impact the community hall, nor offices located to the south of the site.

“As lease arrangements have different end dates, Council is progressing a phased closure of the northern wing tenancies.

“Council is currently only investigating plans for the site at 199 Gympie Road and as such has provided no public comment on demolition or possible redevelopment.

“Council is supporting individual tenants in their search for new accommodation.”

Mr Dutton, whose office has been at 199 Gympie Rd for 22 years, says his office has “relocated temporarily” to 1/454 Gympie Rd – on the intersection with Samsonvale Rd.
