Plant your own edible garden

Have you ever wanted to plant your own edible garden and grow an abundance of food all year round?

This November, Burpengary, Woodford and Strathpine library is hosting a gardening event to help you discover five easy steps to start and successfully maintain your own edible garden.

Growing Made Simple founder and host Susanne Engelhard says the events aim to inspire people to get into their edible garden journey.

“It is an introductory talk with the first half being a mix of inspiring people to get going on their edible gardening journey, as well as some practical how-to advice on where to start,” Susanne says.

“The second half is answering people’s questions about their own vegetable gardens.

“They will get an insight into five mistakes people often make when starting a garden at home, and then find out what to do instead.”

Growing Made Simple first started when Susanne wanted to make it easier for people to grow food at home.

“So many people I meet like the idea of having a veggie patch out the back, yet often they don’t get going on their dream,” Susanne explains.

“It often boils down to not knowing where to start or not getting the foundations right to start with and their gardens fail to get going.”

Susanne says it’s a lot easier to grow an edible garden than most people think.

“It really is possible to grow food at home without it costing a lot of money or taking your whole weekend to maintain,” Susanne says.

“It’s very normal to feel overwhelmed when you first start, but you will find that once you get a few foundations right and experience success, you will find yourself growing in confidence; and before you know it – you will have a thriving backyard patch; the envy of all your neighbours.”
