Put to test against world's best

Redcliffe resident Amelie Hoefel has added international experience to her growing water polo resume.

The Redcliffe State High School student has returned from a European tour with the Australian Under 16 Cadet squad.

Hoefel and her team-mates spent two weeks in the Netherlands and Hungary, training and playing series against their hosts.

The Australian girls proved too strong against Netherlands and won their matches.

However, the 2022 world champions Hungary were a tougher test and won several close-fought encounters.

Hoefel was selected for the two-week tour after being invited to an AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) camp in Canberra.

It followed a successful season with her club Mermaids in the Brisbane competition, winning a gold medal with the Blue side in a thrilling final against Albany Creek.

Hoefel was also selected for the Sunshine Coast Schools team at the State Championships and made her first Australian Age Swimming Championships this year with Southern Cross.

She is now working towards the Brisbane winter water polo competition.
