SHAG 'stoked' at harbour forum

A community forum is being held this weekend when latest developments on the Scarborough Harbour Draft Master Plan will be revealed.

State Member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath says she has arranged for representatives from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to be present.

“This is your opportunity to hear from the department on the latest developments with the master plan and have your say,” Ms D’Ath says.

The meeting is at Redcliffe Leagues Club on Saturday, from 10am to noon. RSVPs must be sent by those wishing to attend.

To register RSVP by email to redcliffe@parliament.qld.gov.au or phone 3448 7100.

The move has been welcomed by Scarborough Harbour Action Group (SHAG) which has long tried to meet ministers and state members.

The group is hoping to have "pretty decent numbers" at the meeting and "stoked" to finally "sit at the stakeholder table".

“This is an incredible opportunity to show TMR and the State Government how important the fate of our harbour is to the local community, plus those who enjoy and value its special assets,” SHAG said on its Facebook page.

Many residents are opposed to TMR’s bold plans for Scarborough Harbour.

These would see more tourism, commercial, entertainment and low-impact marina activities, while trawlers, seafood processing and wholesale would be moved across the harbour.

The latter would be part of “expanded marine activities” and a “club and community facility” along the inside harbour section of Scarborough Park.

SHAG says there has been “poor consultation and engagement”, which does not reflect inclusivity, mutual respect or understanding” of community values and “limited evidence” of feedback from 2021.

The group also has “significant concerns” over traffic, roads, parking, congestion, environmental impacts and handling of dredge spoil”.
