Severe weather warning: 90km/h wind gusts expected

Caboolture residents are being urged to secure all loose outdoor items and move their car undercover or away from trees following a severe weather warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology.

The region could see wind gusts in excess of 90km/h due to a strong trough and cold front that will sweep across southern Queensland today, pushing offshore overnight and into Tuesday.

Strong west to southwesterly winds will develop over southeastern Queensland in the wake of the trough system.

Locations which may be affected include Warwick, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Stanthorpe, Caboolture, Coolangatta and Ipswich.

The weather warning was issued at 10.59am.

Local SES Controller for Moreton Bay Unit Sean Harrop is urging residents to start taking precautions now before the weather worsens.

“What people need to do to protect their home is to secure loose objects in their yards, such as patio furniture, trampolines and anything else that can be lifted up into the air,” Sean says.

“I would also advise people to move their cars undercover and away from trees, because there is that added risk because the ground has been so wet because of all the rain we have had over the past few weeks.”

The next severe weather warning will be issued at 5pm.
