Stay safe on roads over Easter
Police have urged motorists to take care on the roads over Easter after 14 drivers were caught speeding in three hours at the weekend – all on the same road.
Senior-Constable Jo Arthur says with roads expected to be busy for the long weekend break, now is a good time for drivers to look at their behaviour and the choices they make.
“We cannot stress enough to take care while you are driving,” Sen-Constable Arthur says.
“We would rather not meet you this Easter, so please consider the consequences – and that doesn’t just mean getting a ticket.”
Sen-Constable Arthur says all the speeding drivers at the weekend were detected southbound on the Hornibrook Highway between Woody Point and Brighton.
Three drivers were travelling between 31kmh and 40kmh over the speed limit, including a 17-year-old Deception Bay boy who had only received his licence three days earlier.
He was issued a traffic infringement and fined $643 and six demerit points.
Licence suspended
Another five drivers were detected exceeding the speed limit by more than 40kmh, while police allege they intercepted one driver detected doing 167kmh in an 80kmh zone.
The 34-year-old Bald Hills man was issued a traffic infringement and fined $1286 and eight demerit points, and given a six-month suspension of his driver’s licence.
He also faces the potential impoundment of his vehicle.
“What was even more disappointing was that vehicle also contained a number of children,” Senior Sergeant Brett Stevenson from the Moreton Highway Patrol says.
“This driving behaviour is not acceptable.
“Police are, and will be, out on the roads over the Easter break.”
