Strut your stuff in local talent quest

Four performers from Red Music + Dance at Rothwell who will represent Australia in musical theatre in America next year are raising money to help pay their way for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Redcliffe State High School students Alexander Hancock, Olivia Hancock, Sophie Vincent and St Benedict’s college student Theo Hunt are off to the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta in January.

“There will be 7000 people there with schools across the US and other All-Star teams, like ours,” Alexander says.

The team are staging a talent quest on October 6, giving other local budding stars the opportunity to showcase their talents and receive feedback from a judging panel.

Judges include musician, singer and teacher Eli Ball, actor and director Susan O'Toole Cridland, and performing arts chaperone and dance teacher Tammy Richards.

“The event will be entirely organised, managed and MC’d by myself and the three other young representatives to help remove some of the burden of fundraising from our families,” Alexander says.

“Along with the feedback, the competitor who is lucky enough to place first in each of the four categories in each age group will receive a trophy as well as a cash prize to recognise their talents.

“It is a safe and supportive space to showcase your talents to your family and friends while receiving some feedback to help on your journey.

“This event will not only enable us to raise money for our trip, but currently, there is nothing like it for young performers in the area.”
