Kids live out their rockstar fantasies at RevFest

A number of talented singers and musicians from Bray Park State High School are this week living out their rockstar fantasies with the school’s hugely popular RevFest on once again.

The event is a highlight of the school calendar as it allows students and staff the opportunity to showcase their vocal and instrumental skills on stage in a festival-like environment.

Bray Park State High School principal Peter Turner says the event “gives students another opportunity to enjoy coming to school every day”.

“RevFest has been running for 16 years by the performing arts department under the guidance of Mr Rob Adamson, and is an event that everyone looks forward to each year,” Peter says.

“For one week every October, we black out the hall, set it up to look like a rock concert, and let the students who have been putting in hours of practice get up and perform a range of acts during their lunch break.

“We have everything from soloists to rock and roll bands, as well as the school’s choirs and ensembles.

“The students love getting up on stage to put some music on and entertain the others."

With lots of lights, smoke machines and video, Peter describes the event as an “industry standard performance”.

“The level of professionalism with the lights, sound, smoke machines and video is top notch – you really do feel like you are at a big concert,” Peter says.

“The show is supported by about 20 students who are part of our backstage technical crew, so during RevFest they get to learn about all the elements that make a great show."

Peter, who plays the rhythm guitar, is also part of a band made up of music teachers called the Bray City Rollers. They will also perform during the week.

RevFest will run every day this week.
