Unitywater unlocks new canvases for local artists

Local artists are being called on to help give Moreton Bay an extra splash of colour, with Unitywater unlocking several blank canvases for people to create their next masterpiece on.

Applications are now open for professional and emerging artists to take part in Unitywater’s new Community Arts Program, which aims to turn boring brick and concrete structures into works of art.

The artwork will be featured on multiple pump stations, roadside cabinets and smaller reservoirs across Unitywater’s network here in Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast.

Joshua Zugajev, Unitywater’s Executive Manager Strategic Engagement, says the company has identified a number of sites where artists can bring their creative vision to life.

“We’ve identified more than 20 potential canvases to choose from, including ground level brick buildings in Albany Creek, Brendale and Caboolture, roadside metal cabinets in Mountain Creek and Minyama, and concrete rendered pump stations in Noosa,” Joshua says.

“We hope this new group of canvases provides a new generation of creatives with a chance to showcase their talents and help us turn some drab brick and concrete into fab photo backdrops for locals and visitors.

“Artists should think outside the paint tin, with a range of materials suitable for creative installations that can enhance the local surroundings.”

How to apply 

Submissions close on Friday, October 25, with successful applicants able to access up to $10,000 in funding from Unitywater towards their total project cost.
