Who’s Who in 2022, Government Gurus: Andrew Powell

Improving the region’s roads and services have been among the major gains of State Member Andrew Powell, whose Glass House electorate includes the north-western tip of Moreton Bay Region.

Mr Powell’s website lists “improved front line services” including additional police on the beat in Woodford, where he has also secured a pedestrian crossing in the main street.

There has also been increased financial support for local schools, sporting and community groups and flashing school zone safety lights have been installed at most local schools.

Mr Powell’s website lists his successes as a new overtaking lane and safety improvements on the D’Aguilar Highway and a new bridge over the Mary River at Conondale.

Also new traffic lights at the intersection of Reed St and Steve Irwin Way at Glass House Mountains and funding to upgrade the Maleny-Kenilworth Rd at Cambroon.

A new police station has been built at Maleny, where there are now additional officers. Palmwoods also has more police on the beat.

Mr Powell’s website says reductions in surgery and dental waiting times have also been among the improvements in his time as the elected representative.

Among this year’s winners in Mr Powell’s Local Heroes Grants was Woodford Scout Group to buy a basic tool kit and trolley to be stored at the den.

Upper Caboolture Uniting Church was able to buy a portable organ for outdoor services and swimmer Kael Thompson, of Conondale, received extra cash to compete at the national titles.

Maleny State High School student Raylene McSweeny had a grant towards travel to Emerald for her agriculture studies and Maleny SES was given funds to buy PPE lockers.
