Who’s Who in 22, Community: Ryan Elson

Tribe Social Belonging founder Ryan Elson took his organisation to the next level, opening a clubhouse to bring people together in August, 2022.

It was the next logical step for the charity he started in 2018, which aims to help people make social connections to boost their wellbeing and sense of self-worth.

Tribe Social Belonging’s Clubhouse is at shop 4, 457 Oxley Ave, Redcliffe, and was fitted out with the help of community fundraising and labour.

Ryan said the group’s size prompted the move as he realised their growing numbers put pressure on smaller hospitality businesses which had been hosting their activities.

He also felt it was important for members to have a place they could call their own.

The Clubhouse is an inclusive entertainment venue with café-style food, drinks and live music.

It is open Monday to Thursday from 8.30am-2.30pm, Friday from 8.30am-10pm and Saturday 4-10pm.

Activities on the monthly calendar include discos, karaoke, Dungeons and Dragons, arts and crafts, live music, coffee catchups and more.

Ryan said the Clubhouse had a community club licence to operate and he was keen to create opportunities for emerging bands to play.

He also wants to host Tribe Youth events for under-25s who find the typical club/pub scene difficult or not for them.

Members handprints are featured on the wall as a further demonstration the space truly is theirs.
