Who’s Who in 22, Government Gurus: Tony Latter

This year, Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Tony Latter has delivered funding for community connectivity, local sports and amenities in Division 12.

Council’s 2022/23 Budget included significant funding for community infrastructure and road maintenance.

When the Budget was handed down, Cr Latter said he was proud that the $4.15 million transformation of the Petersen Road Sports Ground would be completed his financial year and Council had allocated an extra $770,000 to replace the old irrigation system.

The Budget also included $1.5 million for the Caboolture Region Environmental Education Centre (CREEC) at Burpengary to receive new play equipment, barbecues and shelters, amenities, and landscaping. A carpark was also part of the upgrade, thanks to State Government funding.

Funding of $544,000 was allocated to repair and improve the netball courts at Woodford Showgrounds to help the club get back on its feet and cater to rising demand.

In response to residents’ feedback for more work in smaller parks, funding for playgrounds at Atwood Street Park, Wamuran, and Alcock Park, Elimbah, was also allocated.

Other projects included new play equipment at Lake View Park, Morayfield, and a revamp of the dog off leash area at Woodford Sports Complex with asphalt carpark, steel reinforced concrete pathway, tree planting and garden beds.

A significant portion of the Budget was also allocated to road maintenance, with footpaths and gravel road sealing projects earmarked.

The gravel to seal program will include: $148,000 for Heisner Rd, Mount Mee, $92,000 for Whyte Rd, Neurum, and $64,000 for Hoffman Rd, Wamuran.

During 2022, community consultation has continued on a name for the development west of Caboolture and associated suburbs. Council’s recommendations are now being considered by the State Government, with public consultation again to be part of the process.

In October, Cr Latter represented Moreton Bay Regional Council at the National Economic Development Conference in his capacity as Council’s Economic Development Chair.

In September, the Morayfield Neighbourhood Plan reference group met for the first time to provide community feedback and have input into future planning for the Morayfield area. It followed public consultation in April.

In July, new children’s space opened at Woodford Library; and, in June, the township hosted a Moreton Bay Regional Council Community Council meeting.
