Who’s Who in 22, Inspiring People: Bob Millar

Community stalwart Bob Millar has been acknowledged for his dedication and commitment to the community, receiving an Order of Australia (OAM) medal in the Australian Day honours list for 2022.

In the Australian honours system, appointments to the Order of Australia confer the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service.

Nominations for awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia come directly from the community.

All the nominations are considered by the Council for the Order of Australia which makes recommendations directly to the Governor-General.

Bob, who is a former Pine Rivers Shire and Moreton Bay Region Councillor was honoured for his service to the community.

Speaking to Moreton Daily on January 27 after receiving his OAM, he was humble about receiving the honour.

“I am deeply honoured to be recognised in this way. I never thought in my wildest dreams the time I spent helping my community would lead to an award of this stature,” Bob said at the time.

“I look at this award and I think it is paired with lots of other people in the community who I have crossed paths with in my life, all of whom also want to make the community a better place.

“I don’t see it (the award) as a personal thing, but something that should be shared with others and something that acknowledges what volunteerism is all about.

“All volunteers do their volunteering because of the contributions they want to make to their community. I know I have gotten so much out of volunteering, probably more than what I have given these groups.”

He also thanked this family who have been by his side every day.

“My wife and children have been with me every step of the way and have made their own sacrifices to enable me to do the community work I am so passionate about,” Bob said at the time.

“They share in this award as much as I do.”

Bob spent Australia Day 2022 at the Samford Rotary Club’s Citizenship Ceremony, where he welcomed 30 new Australians to the community.
