Construction is officially underway on the new Burpengary East Shopping Centre, which will create 260 new and ongoing jobs.

Situated on the corner of Buckley and Uhlmann Roads, the centre will have a major retailer and speciality stores.

There will also be alfresco dining and children’s play space, as well as 238 car parking spaces.

After ‘turning of the sod’ at the new precinct, construction is expected to finish in late 2025.

“We’ve received overwhelming support from the community for the development which we’re proud to deliver for local residents,” Tomas Lancini, of Lancini Property Group, said.

“We will once again partner with Woolworths as our major retailer, but also deliver 12 speciality stores along with a family friendly alfresco dining and kids’ area.

“Overall, the development signifies our commitment to enhancing community infrastructure and supporting the growth of Burpengary East and surrounding areas."

Lancini Site Manager Ryan Richardson said: “Despite all the recent rain construction is on track and we’re looking forward to delivering this project.”

Anthony Duggan, from Woolworths, said customers will be able to shop for “everyday essentials” or place an order for Direct to Boot.

“This modern Woolworths supermarket will create a number of jobs throughout construction, and ongoing," Mr Duggan said.

Councillor Mark Booth welcomed the “significant investment in our community's economic future” and the “positive impact” of new jobs.

He said they will contribute to Moreton Bay City Council’s Regional Economic Development Strategy to create more than 100,000 new jobs by 2041.
